Busy Bee

I have a hard time getting going in the morning. I snooze several times before I get up, and even when I do get up and get into work, my brain doesn't completely engage for about an hour or so. Eventually I get into my work mindset, and I can usually pull off the rest of the day without even taking a break for lunch.

Because of this, I tend to get a lot done within the first hour after work. If I have errands to run, or chores to do at home, I would much rather come home from work and get them done right away. While I'm still in the work groove. The last thing I want to do is sit down for a while, get relaxed, and then have to get up again and start doing laundry or something.

Ian, on the other hand, is the opposite. When he gets home from work, all he wants to do is sit around for a while and watch TV or play video games. Anything else gets put off until he's had at least 30 minutes of downtime. Usually more like an hour.

In the beginning, this difference caused some issues. Ian and I would make plans to get together for dinner, so I'd go home and do everything that needed to get done and then I'd call Ian. Who would still be sitting on his couch. And who would be ready to come up for dinner, just as soon as he sent a few emails, downloaded a few pictures, and tossed in a load of laundry. Which used to make me crazy.

Now I get it...it's just the way Ian is. So now I just keep doing things around the house until I completely run out of things to do. Usually by then Ian is ready to go and I get into the relaxing part of my evening. It also means that I tend to get a lot more done, which is always a good thing.

The problem is, Ian is out of town. For the next 11 days. And last night? I bought groceries and put them away, went through my mail and paid bills, sorted out the clothes that I had bagged up to donate, uploaded the rest of my CD collection onto iTunes, cleared out my DVR, organized my desk, did a load of laundry, went to the gym, and cooked dinner. Somewhere in there I watched a little TV, while uploading CDs.

Apparently without Ian around, I no longer have the trigger to just stop doing things already and relax. I'm going to have to figure something out, or it's going to be a long 2 weeks. Of course, eventually I'll run out of things to do at home. So if anyone in the Metroplex needs any chores done around the house? Give me a few days to finish at my place, then give me a call.
