Guess What!

Some of you may have already heard about this, but I had to make sure some folks knew about this already otherwise I get clocked for not telling them about important events. Like when I had my appendix out I failed to tell Dale about it for like two months. Apparently, she didn't approve of that. Something about caring if I'm in the hospital and dying or not. I don't know. She's so touchy about things like that.

And she has never let me forget it.

Ever.

So don't ever say that I never tell you lovely people anything. But I'm engaged! Jeff and I are running away to Las Vegas to get married on Halloween. Yay! I've been wanting to tell you for like a week now. So, celebrate with me asI freak out about getting a dress on time. (Another entry for another time. I promise.)

But we're engaged!

Television Heroes

Do you think that doctors who watch Gray's Anatomy or spies who watch Burn Notice or college professors who watch Geek look at the show and think to themselves, "yeah right. Like that would ever happen." I can see a seasoned FBI agent on his day off sitting on his couch cleaning off his TiVo watching Burn Notice. He sees Michael Weston taking apart a cell phone to add a bug and throw his Miller Lite at the TV, scratch his belly and say, "Bullshit. You'd never use a Samsung. Those phones are pieces of crap."

Or at least that's what the spy who lives in my head would say.

HP6

Holy nerd on a stick, Batman! I'm going to go see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince tonight! I'm so stoked! In fact, I win the biggest Harry Potter Nerd contest - you know, if there was a contest, because I'm going to see it twice.

TWICE.

I have a private screening with a big posh magazine this evening at 6. In fact, the big posh magazine is indeed one you've heard of which makes it way more awesome. And dude, that's like SIX FULL HOURS before the rest of the country sees it!

Then we're going again at midnight. MIDNIGHT I say! Mostly because the people in costume just crack my shit up. I love to sit behind entire Quidditch teams. And see little girls in shirts that say "Harry is my Homeboy." Or to see red haired guys in sweaters with giant "Rs" on the front with a cat toy mouse sewn onto his shoulder. Love. Love. LOVE. Being surrounded by my nerdy brethern.

Hooray for Harry! I will give you a full review in my sleepy coma tomorrow I'm sure.

Ohmygod, can we go now please? The waiting is killing me!!!

Erised

So, you know the Mirror of Erised in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone? The one where wizards get caught up in the enchantment and waste away the hours in front of it. Well, for me apparently that is the Harry Potter movies. ABC Family is running a marathon this weekend and I haven't done a damn thing today. Well, I took a nap, but I haven't left the couch. It's delightful, but I cannot make myself do anything else! Damn your Chris Columbus!

At least the movies are good. And I am going to see HP6 twice on Tuesday. (once at 6 and once at midnight) Jealous? You should be. Hehahahhehehaheh.

I had today off and cleaned my apartment. Seriously. Like vacuumed and dusted clean. I think the dust bunnies were starting to demand to be fed the same time we feed Uno which is wrong on so many levels. But I love the place when it's clean. The floors, the shelves, the bathroom. Well, my bathroom. Jeff's bathroom is still the same as it was yesterday. Mostly because ew. Boys are generally gross. What is with that by the way? Why are boys gross? What is that all about. Anyhow, my house smells like watermelon instead of stale now. Hooray! I feel accomplished.

This proves that I am exactly like my mother, as her kitchen is stocked for a nuclear holocaust. This photo also doesn't show the two nearly full 12-packs in the fridge. What? there was a sale! 5 for $12! That's a damn good sale. $12! For 60 cans of soda! That's like $0.20 each. A heckuva deal. What I failed to check was our current selection of beverages beforehand. Oops. Oh well.

3-Day Weekend!

Happy Fourth of July! I would take pictures of my adventures this weekend, but both of my damn cameras are in the damn shop. (You think they could have timed this better.) But I have three glorious days off. To be fair, I had a three day weekend last week and will again next week too. I'm special like that.

What isn't so special (excuse the pity party here) is that I won't get to spend any of this time with Jeff. He's got three games over the next three days. That means he leaves early in the morning and gets back considerably after dark. And even later since the next three days they have fireworks.

So, I'm missing spending a lovely, long weekend, being lazy with Jeff. Awww. Sad. Go on. Give me your pouty face and collective "awwww....." Seriously.

But it should be a fun weekend nonetheless. Just me and a bunch of friends watching stuff blow up and eating hot dogs. Hooray! It would be more fun with Jeff, but we know how that goes. Lucky for me, I will get to see him on Sunday! Insert cheers! Go on. Cheer!

So, enjoy the Fourth in your way with your own family. And look to the sky and watch crap blow up!

It's the eyes

Two weeks from today Harry Potter 6 opens. One week and six days from now, I get to see a sneak preview. (Jealous?) A sneak sponsored by a big fancy magazine. That's how you know I'm a big Potter Nerd.

Anyways.....

So, I was reading this interview they had with the dude who plays Neville Longbottom, Matt Lewis. He said some interesting stuff. He said some ho-hum stuff. And there were pictures. Nice. Good job. Yay. Now, I know he wears a fat suit in the movies to appear chubbier than his svelt counterparts, but I guess I was unprepared for this photo:

I mean, I knew he was a good looking guy and all, but this is one hot picture. I may have to issue an invitation to him to sit my Hott Tub at somepoint. Although at the same time, it's Neville! That's so weird. He's the nerdy kid that they petrificus totalus in the first movie.

Then I started looking at him again. (Like I said the interview was kind of mediocre.) And he reminded me of someone. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then it hit me. He looks like this guy:

I know! The resemblence is scary! And a little hott. In fact, kind of, a lot hott. Oh, I need a frosty beverage now...

Open Letters: Duex

Dear Cable Guy

Thank you, thank you, thank you for fixing my cable. However, did you have to tear apart my house to do so? You needed to find The Panel. To fix the internet. You know the internet was not busted right? But ok. We can tear apart the house looking for The Panel. Oh and while I have you here, please tell your dispatcher not to call and tell me you're "just around the corner" TWO HOURS before you're actually "just around the corner." Two hours is a bit excessive. I didn't want to make lunch because you're "just around the corner." Nor did I change the sheets on the bed, do my make-up or hair, or fold the clothes that were in the dryer. "Just around the corner?" It took you TWO hours to go "just around the corner?" Well, you made the Cable Guy Window by 30 minutes. Lucky for you. I had a 230 appointment. But thank you for giving me a new cable box and making me watch 15 minutes of Tyra! while you searched for The Panel. Really? Tyra? I hope I don't see you for awhile.

Stay cool,
Karen

Dear New Doctor

Oh my holy hell. You are the most god-awful doctor in the history of doctors. And I include with that the doctors that used to put leaches on your body to suck out the evil. You are worse than THOSE doctors. If i had more time, I'd go on every doctor reviewing website and write what a disaster you and your practice are. Your waiting room looked like a trailer park. None of the furniture matched. There were two rather large families with a zillion brats running around and a lady full-asleep on the couch. Seriously? Your nurses didn't have scrubs that fit and you, you showed up in a silk skirt. The hell. Oh and when I come in for a cold asking me if I want an HIV test seems inappropriate. Also, when you do a strep test and the person gags so hard that her eyes water and she dissolves into a puddle of coughing, choking mess, it might help to apologize for making her into that puddle. Moron. Thanks for the Z-Pak perscription, but I will not be back.

Your office needs a coat of paint and a can of air freshener,

Karen

My kingdom for doctor who doesn't suck. And near my house would be nice as well. Oh and my throat still hurts where her strep test stabbed me in the back of the throat. Awesome. Gah.

Relive the whole trip here.

Kerry came back to America! (And brought Ian! Not pictured here.)

Of course, we were really all there to see Dan! (And Katie, also not pictured here.)

Since I beat Baxter there by like 12 hours, they took me to the Zoo.

(Isn't he fantastic?)

Where we learned how snakes open their jaws to swallow things whole. Here is what a human would look like with the same type of jaw. (That's a loaf of bread.)

We all sat on the bear. (Look! It's Ian!)

Then we had a beer. Or in Kerry's case, all the beers.

Then Baxter made it! And there was much rejoicing.

The next day, we went to the Newseum, but got distracted at the FBI building.

And the Newseum? Best. Museum. Ever.

Ever. I tell you.

Ever.

And then to Hooters in Chinatown! In Chinese!!

And Flat "Abraham" Dan is going to get whacked at Ford's Theater.

And Baxter did it.

Then Baxter taught us the Mojitos taste like mouthwash.

On Sunday we went to Camden Yards! To see the Orioles beat the ever loving tar out of the Braves.

Final score 11-2. And these are stitched photos which is why the side looks all awkward.

Best sign at the game.

The last day we went to the American History Museum.

And we stood on a chunk of the actual road from Route 66.

And Dad did not actually get run over by a street car.

And then in our long ass delay to get home, we at at Not a Chipotle.

And then after what seemed like forever we made it home. And without Chipotle, but with tons of punch drunk giggles on the flight. I recommend traveling with Baxter whenever possible. And staying with Dan and Katie because they're awesome. And having all your friends come in from around the world because that just turns it into a circus. And we all like the circus.

Of Busy Days, Broken Cameras, and Dads

Happy dad's day, Dad. Dinner was awesome! So Jeff and I spent this afternoon with my folks. We had dinner. It was awesome.

This was after taking not one, but both of my beloved cameras to get repaired. That sucks. I feel so naked right now. Can I borrow your camera?? My brand new DSLR screen is cracked and my point and shoot has a busted latch on the battery compartment. Bah. It has not been my year as far as cameras go, clearly. Take pictures for me please.

As far as not having time. Well, there are not enough hours in the day. I am like 12 projects behind at work and 12 kajillion behind at home. What is that all about? I have traded nights spending time with Jeff instead of sleeping and then sleeping for the gym. Jeff is quite important but sleeping more than 4 hours is too. Maybe I'll catch up more this week. My fingers are crossed.

I have a few good stories from the weekend but couldn't find time to write. So is the story of my life right now...wish me luck this week.

D.C. Weekend Extravaganza!

So, in total my flights were delayed for my trip nearly eight hours. Thursday's flight out was straight up canceled because we had some AWFUL weather in Dallas. Like people without power, flooding, lighting, wind, tornadoes. Awesome. So, like every flight was canceled. I managed to get a miracle flight out Thursday night, but Baxter wasn't as lucky. She had nearly 24 hours before she'd get there. Sad. (Or as she put it, "Epic Fail.") On the way back it was about a 90 minute delay. Not killer, but after having an absurd delay Thursday, we held our breath and hoped for the best.

But no one cares about how much travel sucks. I know. I'm sorry. But seriously eight hours of delay (or 26 for Bax)? That just blows.

But we made it! And we saw everyone! Kerry and Ian from England, Dan and Katie from D.C., Drew from Delaware and Baxter from Oklahoma. We were a virtual melting pot. It was awesome. Hooray for reunions!

And we did a lot. The National Zoo, My Company's D.C. Office, Newseum, Ford's Theater, Orioles vs. Braves baseball game and the American History Museum. And a few pubs and some great restaurants. It was super busy and tons-o-fun!

I have pictures coming. I'm going through them because I'm sure you won't want to see 500 pictures from my extravaganza weekend. Maybe you do. I mean, I think they're pretty awesome. I'm going to put them in a blurb book. But I'm looking out for you.

So for now, while I get all those posted and pretty I'll leave you with, "Damn, what a weekend!" I need to travel more. Where can I go next?
