Lost

This is indeed a sad day for all of us, but especially me. We have lost someone great . I think sharing our grief will help us ease our burdens. No tears, now. He wouldn't have wanted you to cry.

You see my camera. My beloved camera has bitten the dust. He was squashed and then melted while at Six Flags Over Texas on Saturday, March 17. And he meant so much to me. Capturing life's most exciting moments and life's most trivial. He is responsible for so many memories now hanging on my wall. For so many memories I have sent around the world. For nearly all of my Flickr account.

My lovely little camera. The camera that Jeff so wonderfully bought for my 27th Birthmas. (Because I somehow convince all my boyfriends to buy me digital cameras. I'm not sure how I do that, but I tell ya...what a skill!) I did carry that camera every day for 2 and a half years. 2.5 years. That's a long ass time.

But all good things must come to an end. It was my little Canon's time to join the big electronic
s graveyard in the sky. Sigh. I loved that camera. LOVED. I suppose it was bound to happen sometime. I mean, I abused that little camera. Flat out ABUSED it. I dropped it. I carried it around in my purse. I sent it through a bazillion airport x-rays. I left it in my car in the middle of summer. I've taken it to Six Flags twice. I've taken it to more baseball games than I can count. I've worked my way through four memory cards. I'm sure I've gotten it drenched in all sorts of different liquids. It's been on the sticky floor of the movie theater. See? Completely abused.

And finally the stress was too much for it. And the screen cracked. And then there was silence.

Sigh.

So, days before I leave for London, I went out and bought a brand new digital camera. A camera that is advertised by none other than Dude, Where's My Car, Ashton Kutcher. Yes. He's the reason I bought this camera. Actually, I found out AFTER I bought it that Ashton was the spokesperson. Oh well. I picked the camera based on it's features and so far, I am quite pleased with it. It has more bells and whistles than my late Canon.

I think this will be a great fit. I just hope that it lasts as long as my last one did.

(shedding a few tears!) I sometimes wonder just how difficult it will be when my camera eventually moves on to camera heaven. Oh sure, there's the excitement of a new camera...but I've shared so much with the current one. It's seen me through happy moments, funny moments, even some flirty moments...sigh.

Have a wonderful time in England, give Kerry lots of hugs for all of us, and make sure you put the new camera through its paces so you can show us how much fun you had across the pond. =)

You'd better take lots of pictures with your new toy! I'm so jealous that you get to go and I wish I could go too :-) Have lots and lots and lots of fun, wave at the Queen, don't eat the swans, drink some amazing beer, sing My Fair Lady songs at the appropriate places, go on a Jack the Ripper tour, and most importantly, hug the stuffing out of Kerry and Ian for me! And give yourself a big hug while you're at it!

Oh my gosh, my camera broke too! Mine broke about a month ago. And the same thing with me -- I take mine EVERYWHERE. Mine only made it close to a year and a half. I'm liking my new camera, though. It's pretty awesome.
