I just wish they didn't have to happen to me. We were on the way to the bank this afternoon and had stopped at a red light. We were about the sixth car in line. It's been raining all day. The guy couldn't stop, and he rear-ended us. Lauren and Kate were with me and so was my sister Larissa.
Kate started screaming on impact and I flew out of the car to the other side (she sits on the passenger side in the rear) to check on her. As soon as she stopped crying, I called 911. (Thank goodness for my cell phone. I will never not have one again.) They asked if anyone was hurt and I said no one in my car was. Then I turned to the other driver to see if any of the people in that car were injured. The lady in the passenger side said she couldn't feel her legs. So I told the 911 operator this and she said she'd send an ambulance. Not long after that, a police car arrived. Then another police car. Then yet another police car. (They must have been having a slow day!) Then the fire truck and rescue squad showed up along with the ambulance. The lady turned out to be fine, and so far we all seem to be okay. I really would like for the insurance company to pay for me to get new carseats, because I just don't feel comfortable with the girls being in carseats that have been in an accident even though it was a minor one. So, all in all it's been an exciting day for us. I'm just glad no one was seriously hurt. I think my Marine Corps tag holder onner thingy was what received the most damage. The insurance company said they'd replace that, though.
Posted by Jen at February 21, 2003 06:54 PM | TrackBackIt's true, they were proven safe and effective, but they aren't designed to withstand multiple accidents. The plastic can become stressed even if it isn't visible and the next accident could prove too much since the seat had already been in an accident. I'd just rather be safe than sorry!
And if I ever get a break from my munchkins, I'll definately IM ya!
Posted by: Jen at February 25, 2003 02:30 PMHi Jen,
Sorry I haven't been around lately. I'm so glad everyone is safe and unharmed. I can understand wanting new carseats but on the other hand, maybe you should keep them because they're proven to be safe and effective :) Just my two cents.
I also saw your funk post and if you need to talk, please don't hesitate to IM me or email me.
*hugs*

Wow, glad noone was hurt.
Posted by: Becca at February 22, 2003 11:14 AMThanks everyone. I was a bit jumpy for the rest of the day. I still had to go to the bank and a few other places, so I was really paranoid about getting hit again! But everyone is fine, and I didn't mention this, but Lauren was asleep and it didn't even wake her up! She sleeps like the dead (aka her Daddy).
